The displays for POS with permanent material allow POS solutions to be developed which promote longer display time at the point of sale without the deterioration that a similar POS display made of cardboard would suffer.

What’s more, in line with their design, they allow the reuse of the POS display on different campaigns, changing the communication elements such as lateral elements or supports . This versatility fosters major cost savings in the investment in POS material, savings in design and manufacturing times for new POS proposals and it enables the greater turnover of messages at the point of sale incorporated in the POS display. Sometimes, owing to versatility and/or cost, mixed POS displays may be designed. The main body and structure of the POS display in permanent material and the communication elements in cardboard.

Here at Primer Canal we have a team of industrial designers with vast experience in the design of displays for permanent POS. Their skills include everything from conceptualisation and graphic design of the POS material to the preparation of technical construction drawings of the POS display.

The permanent POS material production and design team is used to working with multiple materials and the most suitable techniques in each case, including thermoforming and plastics moulding. For the design and production of permanent POS displays, here at Primer Canal we usually use metallic materials (iron rod and plate coated in epoxy paint, aluminium, stainless steel etc.), plastic materials (methacrylate, polystyrene, polycarbonate, polyethylene etc.), woods (melamine, DM, compact phenolic, natural woods etc.). And we are on thee lookout for the incorporation of new materials which may afford an added value to the POS display.

All these materials have the possibility of including the printing of a graphic message of the POS in different techniques according to the type of material, thickness, quantity and quality of finish: digital printing, offset, serigraphy etc.

What’s more, we can incorporate sensory elements in the POS display such as motion, luminous, olfactory elements etc. The Primer Canal design team studies each POS project in unique fashion, assessing the suitability of incorporating some of these elements into the POS display based on the needs expressed by the Customer, paying special attention to the sensory elements not being a purpose in themselves, but rather that they highlight the message that it is wished to convey with the POS element.

The cardboard displays for POS are mainly used for promotional campaigns, with a limited duration at the point of sale. This is why they are also known as semipermanent or promotional POS elements.

The print quality of a display for cardboard POS is very high as the offset printing technique is usually used. The limitations to the use of this printing technique (maximum thickness of around 0.8 mm and high number of units so that costs do not make it unfeasible) do not usually occur with cardboard displays as the thickness of the printed sheet is always less than 0.8 mm and the quantities are usually large.

Lately, there has been a major evolution in the price and quality of printing with digital technology and this has made digital printing directly onto a cardboard pad possible. This printing technique is particularly suited when the number of units is low and it is competitive in terms of price and quality with the offset technique.

Very often, cardboard is also used to complete a display for POS made of permanent material, to be precise, in communication elements such as lateral elements or supports. The durability of the POS display is afforded by the permanent part, as the structure of the whole is made of steel, plastic or wood. In these cases, the permanent POS display can be reappraised at the point of sale, as the external image can be reviewed and changed at a very reduced cost.

For the design of material for the POS, Primer Canal has its own industrial design and creative department. Industrial designers are divided as to whether the POS should be made of cardboard or permanent, but joint work is still carried out as regards the search for and development of ideas, forms and construction solutions.

In the case of cardboard POS, here at Primer Canal the whole design and creation stage is developed. The works include everything from the initial conceptualisation stage, in accordance with the Customer’s briefing, to the construction of an actual prototype, involving the drawing up of technical plans and specifications of the materials required and die designs.

Before validating the prototype for the POS, the latter is subject to a load test with at least the same requirements as those indicated by the Customer. This test, along with the verification of the assembly process, affords added value in terms of safety and an assurance of the behaviour of the material for the POS at the point of sale.

Here at Primer Canal we have vast experience and knowledge of the POS in multiple sectors such as pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food, drinks, electrical appliances, electronics, materials for construction etc. Some of our clients are leading companies in these sectors who trust us with the display of their products at the point of sale through an original, creative and effective POS and so for Primer Canal the service vocation and commitment to Customers are vital.

Despite setting great store by thoroughness and order during the course of the POS project, we view the application and management of changes as falling under this service vocation and commitment to our Customers. We are aware that changes will be caused by multiple factors and they are sometimes inevitable, and so here at Primer Canal we work in flexible, multiskilled teams which promote a rapid reaction and adaptation in the event of any unforeseen changes at any stage of the development of a POS project.
